Another historic day for Yorkville cross country!

Boys

I wanted to start with the boys, because I do not want their accomplishment to be totally overshadowed by our girls’ historic day.

We have such a young team, and to even make it to the state meet was such a huge deal. When seemingly the ENTIRE STATE had counted out our boys xc team, they rose above, proved them wrong, and showed that we ARE one of the best young teams in the state.

I told the boys right before the start of the race “You’re dangerous,” and the rest of 2A was put on notice. I assure you, they see how young and talented this team is, and they are nervous to toe the line against the likes of you in the years to come!

Bam.

This is why we do what we do—for the chance to do great things.

I am reminded of my favorite quote of all time:

“I will prepare and some day my chance will come.” —Abraham Lincoln

This wasn’t just a day where we were the better team—we have been preparing to be the better team all season.

Every mile, every hill, every stretch, every strider, every sit-up, every lift—they prepared you to be your best.

11233_1265966015235_1412325638_759386_3280473_nYou prepared all season, through thick and thin, and when your chance came, you seized it. THAT is the mark of a truly remarkable team.

No one can take away what you accomplished today—and not many people can EVER say they brought home a trophy from state. We are so proud!

Teammates, family, friends and administration

The success of this program doesn’t only come from the legs of our athletes. It comes from the overwhelming support we receive every day from our cross country family. From simply driving your athlete to practice, running with us as a team member, supporting us from afar, or being our sports booster rep (THANKS LINDA!), your hours of devotion, love and support have not gone unnoticed! Former YHS All-Stater Krysten Sebby said it best: “We are not just a team, we are a family.” This is at the core of the success our program has enjoyed the past few years, and everyone that can say “I have a connection with this team,” no matter how small they feel it may be, helps us be our best, and we thank all of you!

Beacon News:

Led by All-State performances from Ali Hester and Esther Bell, Yorkville scored 124 points to pick up a team trophy with a second-place performance. The Foxes, who placed 12th a year ago, finished just six points behind team champion Springfield.

“We are pretty ecstatic right now,” Yorkville coach Chris Muth said. “We didn’t think we had a shot at second but the girls ran a great race. We couldn’t have asked for anything better than that.”

Chicago Tribune:

Yorkville takes 2nd in 2A: Ali Hester’s plan for celebration was “to stop someplace unhealthy to eat. We’ve been eating Subway all the time here.”

The Yorkville sophomore earned the indulgence. She placed fifth in the Class 2A race in 17:56 to propel the Foxes to second in the team standings with 130 points.

“We were hoping to get top five,” Hester said. “So we were very, very excited to get second. We were going crazy.”
