Foxes close regular season at Stampede; Edwards wins individual title

Sunday, October 8 2017 - West Aurora Blackhawk Stampede - Alyssa Edwards

The Foxes girls varsity earned another invitational championship even with a setback, and a short-handed boys team placed seventh in the 19-team field.

Senior Alyssa Edwards continued her quality running as the postseason gears up next week, winning the individual championship in 18:00.27. Helena Kleronomos (3rd, 18:24.50) was with Edwards and Emily Eberhart for much of the race before Edwards pulled away and Eberhart was forced to drop out. Nicole Greyer (8th, 18:50.71), Olivia Borowiak (9th, 18:53.4) and Sara Klemm (16th, 19:10.15) stepped up and helped seal the victory nonetheless, as the Foxes were able to withstand a solid Batavia team 37-44, with Oswego East third with 103. Mady Klebenow (17th, 19:10.49) was right on Klemm’s heels, and Sam Moreno (26th, 19:30.35), Hailey Simmons (29th, 19:34.14) and Victoria Crawford (32nd, 19:39.71) competed on the varsity level.

Without Zack Price or Matt Cox in the lineup, the Foxes placed seventh with 203 points. Ben Summers (16th, 16:20.35) and Ivan Westcott (17th, 16:21.4) led the Foxes, and Eric Naumann (41st, 16:35.67), Ben Tholen (52nd, 16:45.12) and Patrick Black (89th, 17:29.53) were in the scoring five for the Foxes. Alex Loos (104th, 17:38.67) also ran on the varsity squad.
